Paul Ridley, BSUH Head of Planning and Strategy, is launching a pilot meditation and mindfulness group in the tranquil setting of the Barry Building chapel at the Royal Sussex County Hospital. The sessions will run from 12 noon to 12.30 on Mondays, starting on 9 July.
But what exactly is mediation and mindfulness? “It’s about being aware of where we are and what we’re doing,” Paul explains. “We’re all able to be mindful in every moment, but the tendency is to get distracted by thoughts, or to become anxious about worries and concerns.
"Mindfulness has been helpful for me. It provides space to recognise your thoughts and emotions, so you can respond in a more peaceful way that supports resilience to stressful situations.”
