Jeans For Genes Day

Friday 21 September is the day when people all over the UK don their denims to show support for the 500,000 adults and children coping with the challenges of living with a genetic disorder.
The figures for diagnosed genetic disorders are big - somewhere between 4,000 and 6,000. It’s estimated that one in 25 children is affected by a genetic disorder and this means 30,000 babies and children are newly diagnosed in the UK each year. While some are apparent at birth, others are diagnosed at different stages throughout childhood, and sometimes into adulthood.
The national charity, Genetic Disorders UK, which runs the Jeans for Genes fund-raising day, works to improve the lives of individuals and families living with a genetic disorder. It provides resources and support directly to those affected, as well as to the charities and patient groups dedicated to a single genetic disorder or related group of genetic disorders. Its mission is to raise the profile and promote the understanding of genetic disorders among the general public.
