Turning the bad days into good

How are you feeling today? is an easy to use NHS toolkit to help staff work out what’s going wrong and how to turn things around, so the good days outnumber the bad.

There are three headings to gauge how you’re feeling.

On the edge You’re feeling overwhelmed and out of control, with too much to do and not enough time.

What you should do.

  • Make time to prioritise. Say no if you have to, or yes but not right now.

  • Focus on what you can do for your patients, not on what you can’t.

  • Reflect on what you’ve done well, and don’t focus on what you could have done better.

Having a good day You’re feeling confident and believe you’re doing a good job that has a positive impact.

What you should do.

  • Think about what’s made this a good day.

  • Is there anything you can do to ensure you have a good day tomorrow?

  • Build a strong network of colleagues, so that on a day when you have a setback you know who to turn to for support.

On a go slow You’re feeling tired, disengaged and unmotivated. What you should do.

  • Think about why you’re feeling like this.

  • Talk it over with a manager or a colleague.

  • Try to see the point of what you do and the impact it has on others.
