Healthy sleep, Healthy ageing

March 15, 2019

Healthy sleep, Healthy ageing is the theme of this year’s World Sleep Day on Friday 15 March. The event highlights the latest research showing the importance of sleep to remove waste which can potentially damage the ageing brain. The study in the journal Science Advances indicates that the slow and steady brain and cardiopulmonary activity associated with deep, non-REM sleep (also known as Slow Wave Sleep) are optimal for the function of the glymphatic system, the brain’s unique process of removing waste.
